Hi from John & Becky

I hope you have enjoyed the blog this season. I will be working on it as I can this winter. We will be running our RV caravans to Los Barriles until the end of March 2009, then we will be back in San Juanico.

Norbert - a "non event" (as Cynthia put it)

Dustin at 1st point 9:00 a.m. Oct. 11, 2008

Well, Norbert looked promising as far as creating a good swell, which it did for just a few hours early in the day on Oct. 11, 2008.

Even though the swell was almost gone by 2:00 p.m. Dustin still got some good waves.

The sunRISE on the morning that Norbert passed by San Juanico.

Our place

When we got back from the U.S.A., the end of Sept., we were welcomed by some very dense desert growth.

.......and our second litter of feral kitties. We have got to get momma kitty fixed. No vet. in town, so it will be a challenge.

.....AND these big, jie-hugic (a Blair-ism), enormous (about a 8" to 10" wing span) MOTHS! They seem to be harmless, but, the locals say that they are poisonous, guess I'll have to check into that.

The tropical weather brought some great clouds to San Juanico. This is our view of the bay and town from our little 'briar-patch'.
A view of the 'panga' beach and 1st point from 2nd point.

A day at the beach

The 'Point' on our way to the beach. We were just past 6th point.
Can you believe all of the building that is going on at the point!??

Debbe and I had this whole beach to ourselves!
.....well, almost, just some fishermen gathering bait.

It is an amazing beach that goes on for miles and miles and miles.....!!

You'd think I'd get this figured out by now!!!!

Dang!! got stung again!!! Luckily (or not) Dr. 'Tecate' (his nick-name...scary)
was in town and was able to give me a shot of antihistamine. I guess I will be wearing gloves and closed toe shoes for my fashion statement next season!

Point Surf Baja -'...a work in progress.'

Greg Weaver painted this lovely mural on the wall at Point Surf Baja.
Thanks, Greg it is a great addition to our .....'work in progress'.

We got the pillars in so we can go up a second floor. Until that happens they will be used in our temporary shade project.
Dustin's friend Steve, came down from New Mexico to surf and of course had the Baja experience of having his van break down on him on the north road. Luckily he was able to hike to a ranch and get a message, via marine radio, to Dustin to come and help him out. Which he did and they were able to tow his van, thanks to Eric for the truck, back to San Ignacio for repairs. After his time in San Juanico, Dustin took him to San Ignacio, where his van was waiting for him, all fixed and ready to go. Isn't it amazing.....that in the middle of ......nowhere you can breakdown, get help, and get your vehicle fixed under $200.USD. That's what we love about BAJA!
Dustin, Steve and John working on getting the shade structure up.

It is coming along, slowly but surely. Looking more like a 'business' than a residence.

Ahhh...the paved road

What a welcome sight after an hour on the dirt road.
San Juanico is becoming a city! We even have speed limit signs!
................and a Tecate store, a Tecate sign and a Tecate truck.
A welcome sight, Camacho's Gas Station. Still pumping? or should I say siphoning, after all these years.
New solar panels at the 'planta'. They have been working on upgrading the whole system, solar and wind generators.

Our journey back to San Juanico

"The LONG and winding road......." The road has been widened in several places south of El Rosario, YIPPEE!!!

Lake Chapala......yes, that is water in it, not a mirage.

My sister, Debbe and I followed John on this trip down. This is on Hwy 1 in San Ignacio. It is still unbelievably GREEN down there!
Debbe helped me drive our 'new' 4 Runner down. She was such a help and we have so much fun on our road-trips. Especially when we can stop and take photos!

Cuesta del Infierno...Hill from Hell, just north of Santa Rosalia.

Bahia de Conceptcion. Santispac beach looks like it did the first time we drove down to Cabo in the late 80's. No houses! Just palapas for shade.

We stopped by our friends place in Mulege to check on it. It is getting cleaned and ready to fix it up, .......again.

The 'vine-that-ate-Mulege' is back! Julio didn't stop it.
Debbe with our friend's flower pot that we retrieved from the lot next door.

Debbe loved the views of the mountains south of Loreto. Sierra de la Gigante.

A 'vaquero' on the road to La Purisima/San Juanico.

'El Porton'

The 'south' road at the La Purisima river, kinda 'dicey', there are big holes where the water is going over it.

One of the wash-outs on the south road, just before where the dirt road meets the new paved road.

The paved road at the river just outside of town. Looks like it might be a while before this one gets fixed.

Our friends place in Mulege after Julio

Inside our friends house in Mulege, after Julio stormed through in August, 2008.

John trying to figure out how to move the boat out.

The water didn't come up as high as it did when John came through 2 years ago, but, the damage was the same.
